Overall Reflection Statement for Ministry Distinctive
For my competence in Ministry Distinctive, I am submitting three additional artifacts, a depiction of the divine Trinity, a pictorial story of scripture, and a video demonstrating the technique of baptizing others. It reminded me of when I was baptized into the body of Christ and became a new creation. Creatively designing the wreath ring was a reminder that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are in unison. They are one in nature, equal in glory, and distinct in their relationship yet indwelling the other. It revealed that God knew love because of his love relationship with his Son and the Holy Spirit before creation. When we reflect on God’s love, we demonstrate what is most characteristic about God. The pictorial story of scripture indicates a distinct beginning and a particular end to the restoration of humankind. There is a well-established timeline of events that begins with the creation and ends with the formation of the church. It reaffirms that God has been actively working to restore creation due to his great mercy. Often, Christians and nonbelievers miss the totality of the story of scripture because we only hear specific stories or teachings, and it prevents us from understanding the grand narrative of God’s providential intervention.
The experience of understanding the technique and skill of baptizing others is crucial in helping others understand it is an outward expression of their faith of an inward change (Romans 6:4). The sense of gratitude that I felt knowing that my guilt had been removed filled me with awe and wonder as I was once again submerged. It reminded me of how my life changed and of God’s faithfulness throughout the years.
Learning Reflection Statement
As I developed and demonstrated ministry distinctively, I have learned that I did not have a complete picture of the magnitude of God’s plan until I took the class “The Story of Scripture.” From the beginning, God knew mankind would fail, and from the start, a plan was in place. It made me acutely aware of the gaps a person can have in understanding the scripture. It changed how I will share the scripture with others and the importance of teaching and challenging others to dig deeper. If we can’t understand the depth of God’s love, his heart to restore, and the sacrifice he made. Then how can I love as he has loved and give as he has given? These artifacts represent that God’s love transformed me and will sustain me in ministry.
Lifelong Development Statement
As a result of the experiences documented by these artifacts, I will continue to develop in Ministry Distinctive by being committed to sharing the story of scripture with others. When I was a child, I played connect the dots. When I didn’t connect the dots correctly, my picture was skewed. As a believer, if I don’t understand the story of scripture, like in the connect the dots drawing, my view of God, His Son, and the Holy Spirit will be skewed. I selected the artifacts because these creative exercises transformed me. It changed how I see community and view the story of scripture and reminded me of who placed me on this journey.
